My experince has been that nail gun nails used are often about 1/4" shorter
than what the engineer designed (UBC capacity and penetration). Measure one
next time you visit a jobsite. Then find a resource that tells you how long
and what gauge a 8d, 10d and 16d nail should be. This takes a some effort.
This effort is not frequently expended and the nail length specified is
often not provided.
