There is little need for a vapor barrier out here in the desert, except
where the building is on expansive clays or on a golf course where water
can filtrate at higher levels. However, the vapor barrier does help to
control problems with ants and other insects as well as preventing moisture
from reaching the wire mesh or rebar in a slab.
Except for flat work, I highly recomment the barrier - which adds very
little in cost but a great deal for protection.
