I also heard Dr. Geiger speak on tensile structures years ago (~1985?)
at the Philadelphia Engineer's Club. He had that infectious enthusiasm
for his subject that marks the genius. Later I read that he'd gotten in
some hot water in New York with the PE registration board. I never
found out the details, but I remember thinking it was a shame for such a
competent engineer to be humiliated this way, and wondering what the
*real* story was. A few years later he died of a heart attack.

I know from meeting him that he grew up in Philly and went to Drexel
University undergrad and (I think) Columbia for grad school. He
designed the US pavillion at the 1970 Osaka World's Fair., and a host of
stadiums (Pontiac and St. Pete, among others). Can anybody else add any
info?
