Flame cutting of the strand is the only method of transfer that I have seen in more than 35 years. This method has been used on channel sections, box (AASHTO box) beams, T's and double T's as well as the AASHTO I sections. The cautions that I would suggest are: 1. Strands should be cut symmetrically about the center line of the strand pattern, i.e., one on one side of the strand pattern and the next on the other side. 2. If precast is in a bed with multiple units cast with the same strand pattern, cutting should progress down the bed. Cut one (or two) strands at one end of the member, then cut the same strand(s) at the other end until the end of the bed is reached and then work back. In a casting bed, you can't gradually transfer the stress without the units trying to "snap shut" due to the force in the strand between units. A.
