Fwd: Metal Stud Bearing/Shear Walls

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Any thoughts on the best way to use metal stud framing as shear walls
when the architect will not permit the use of plywood in a production
     facility tenant improvement?

The interior metal stud walls will be supporting a utility grid
(mostly HVAC, conduit, lighting, and ceiling) weighing about 30 psf
maximum, so the earthquake loads will be small. I've been considering
the use of metal strap x-bracing, sheet metal screwed to the
individual studs, and designing the straps as "structural steel"
     members.

     Thanx,

     Rick Drake, SE
