I haven't done this in a while, but the standard was to perform 2 test =
per each 1,500 square feet of wall space. A minimum of two tests per =
wall per level in all directions including interior masonry walls.
The minimum allowable in plan shear is 3 psi after removal of the =
overburden.=20
The allowable value is chosen by removing the lowest twenty percent of =
readings and accepting the next lowest value.
In design, if you have a specific area of concern, you can address the =
strength of that wall based upon the values produced in the specific =
wall under question.
If the values are too low, you can point the wall and retest to raise =
the value.
If the building is a one story, then any value above 3 psi will usually =
work in in-plane shear analysis. I have seen very few failures in one =
story structure due to shear. The majority of failure seems to occur =
from rocking shear.

PS, the engineer of record is suppose to choose the test locations, =
however it was not unusual for the testing lab to choose the location =
and gain approval from the EOR.
