A good place to start is with the EERI Earthquake Spectra, Supplement 
C to Volume 11, January 1996.  This should be in your university's 
library.  Chapter 6 of this publication includes about 50 pages of 
discussion and photos of damage to wood buildings in the Northridge 
earthquake.
