Try a diaphragm across on the collar tie if you have one.  Design openings
as you would for a diaphragm that are large enough for aeration.  I believe
that if the opening area is less than 6% of the whole diaphragm area then
the impact on the rigidity and shear capacity is  mnimal. Critical sections
are at the change-of-direction connections.  Out of plane buckling may be an
issue if equivalent thickness of the shear plane is "thin".
