SMIP98 Seminar on Utilization of Strong-Motion Data
Oakland, California
September 15, 1998

The California Strong Motion Instrumentation Program (CSMIP) in the Division
of Mines and Geology of the California Department of Conservation is pleased
to announce a one-day seminar on "Utilization of Strong-Motion Data." The
purpose of the seminar is to increase the utilization of strong-motion data
in improving seismic design provisions and practices. The seminar will be
held on Tuesday, September 15, 1998, at the Marriott Hotel in downtown
Oakland. The seminar program will include presentations by investigators
who were funded by CSMIP to perform data interpretation studies during the
past year, and invited experts who have utilized strong-motion data in
specific studies. Topics will cover several areas including:

	l	Near fault ground motions

l	Improved design procedures for near fault ground motions

l	Responses of concrete frame buildings to the Northridge
earthquake

l	Loss estimation using strong-motion data

l	Utilization of strong-motion data from buildings

l	Utilization of rapid post-earthquake data

l	Bridge instrumentation and post-earthquake evaluation of
bridges

Registration information for the SMIP98 Seminar will be mailed in early
