That would be fine if he applied his legislation to ALL art; instead he
targeted art that HE found offensive.

He's right, why should the public be forced to pay for a non-essential
service that they don't  need or want. I all this art is so great why can't
it pay for it self without government handouts. To me government funding of
arts is welfare for the elite or elite want a bee's.

Mr. Helms is very selective in the use of 1st Amendment rights considering
he once proposed (and may have succeeded) in limiting the content of art
that would be displayed (and paid for) by public endowments.

would that NC senator be Jesse Helms?
He's an embarrassment to the country.  He should have been charged with
treason for his remark about President Clinton being careful visiting
soldiers
in North Carolina.  I wish I could engineer a solution to removing him from
Congress.
