As Aaron has indicated, determination of the effective Sx can
be rather time consuming. Examples are provided in the AISI
Specifications(ASD or LRFD). There are also commercially
available software programs which determine a member's
geometric properties. The easiest solution is to contact one
of the CFS manufacturers such as Unimast, Dale-Incor, Clark,
etc. and obtain the information. Usually, they will furnish you
with one of their catalogs which provides the effective properties
for various shapes dependent upon yield strength.
