As long as strength is not a requirement, a cheaper alternative is to
fill the hole with, what is called, "flowable fill".  It is mix of pea
gravel, cement and pozzalona in very flowable consistency. It has a
strength of about 50 psi and is commonly used in many backfills where
compaction becomes expensive.  Any ready mix plant will deliver this.
