Re: Increase in volume for excavated soils

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Regarding your question:

Does anyone know of a rule of thumb for determining the amount of
volume increase for soils excavated from trenches?

Depends on soil type, initial density, method of excavation, moisture content,
etc. I am not aware of any rules of thumb. Typical bulking factor (percentage
difference between native soil density and density of compacted soil obtained
from the native soil deposit) could range from about -20% to +20%. Needs to
be determined from onsite measurements.
