Re: Joist Chord Widths

Mike:

There are no specifications for material sizes, chord widths or web
geometry.

The prior suggestion of calling a few fabricators is a good one, but
with a caveat: even if a particular joist fabricator says they will use
a certain size chord, there is no guarantee that will actually happen.
They all substitute larger sizes when they run out of something in order
to keep the assemply line moving.

I suggest that if you care about the edge distance, then you should
specify the edge distance. Same for the centerline location. If you
care about BOTH, then specify both and be prepared for higher costs
and/or someone in the chain missing one of your instructions.
