Re: Snow Drifting Provisions

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
The UBC for years stated that "potential accumulation of snow..."
(drifts) shall be considered. This general statement is in the 1976
UBC which is the oldest that I have. However, starting in the 1994
UBC they provided specific design procedures in the UBC. For the 1994
UBC, this is in Volume 2, Appendix Chapter 16, Division I, Snow Load
     Design.

For earlier Codes, where is was not specifically stated, the best
design practice in US codes was to follow something like ANSI A58.1.
The oldest I have of this is the 1972 edition which has specific
drifting provisions. ANSI A58.1 eventually became ASCE 7.

Does anyone know or remember what year the snow drifting provisions were
added to UBC and BOCA?
