I have watched the development of the codes for many years. (I still
have my '76 UBC). I accept the fact that as our knowledge of
structures expands, so will the code provisions. I see provisions in
the '97 UBC that are clearer and less ambiguous than in the older
codes. I think the process is going in the right direction. We need
to keep learning to be functional in this or any other profession. I
for one appreciate the work done by the code developers.

When I acknowledge that I am part of the code development process, I feel
like I am about to be tarred and feathered.
I for one am impressed by my colleagues who take the time to volunteer their
efforts to get involved in building code development.
