Wow, that's great, if I understand the usage correctly.  I suppose you could "X-brace" the infilled bay, then, using a member with the equivalent "A," and set it for "compression only," correct?
 
One question: By "E=modulus of elasticity of the STRUCTURAL element," do you mean the adjacent framing (i.e. concrete)?

        Here in Argentina we used a lot of unreinforced masonry, mostly clay brick masonry
