Use an "if" statement and the "iserror" function, to signal an error first( 
an error would return #NA if the value in cell C12 is not in the list of the 
range named Wshapes), and then if no error is present then continue with the 
vlookup function.

In your specific case try the following command

  =if(iserror(vlookup(C12, Wshapes,42,False)),"selection does not 

if an error is returned then the cell will read:  selection does not exist

if no error is returned then the cell will return the information in column
