RE: Specification of Cee's and Zee's

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
I'm not sure what your referring to when you say that AIA masterspec
says that Cee' and Zee's are not covered under Section 05400.
The only things that this section is not applicable to (not including
specific exceptions), in regards to light gage cold formed steel, are:

	1. Division 5 Section "Metal Fabrications" for masonry shelf angles and
connections.
	2. Division 6 Section "Rough Carpentry" for subflooring, wall
sheathing, or roof sheathing using wood-based structural-use
panels, particleboard, fibrous-felted board, and foam-plastic sheathing.
	3. Division 9 Section "Gypsum Board Assemblies" for interior
non-load-bearing metal-stud framing and ceiling-suspension
assemblies.
	4. Division 9 Section "Gypsum Board Shaft-Wall Assemblies" for interior
non-load-bearing, metal-stud-framed, shaft-wall assemblies.

Otherwise this is exactly the section that you should specify.

Subject: Specification of Cee's and Zee's

I am putting cold formed Cee's on a conventional steel framed building.
Does anybody have suggestions as to what CSI section to place the Cee's
and Zee's under. I do NOT have a prefab metal building so section 13120
is not completely applicable, and the AIA masterspec says that Cee and
Zee components are not considered under section 05400 Cold Formed metal
framing. I want the steel erector to install the cold formed purlins
and girts when they erect the hot formed structural steel under section
05120. How has this been handled in the past. Are there any good
references on how to specify these?
