In 1974 there were ASTM standards for A-440 "High Strength Structural
Steel " and A-441 "High strength low alloy structural manganese vanadium
steel" , both with yield points of 50 and 46 KSi ,  depending on
thickness more than 1/2" in. The difference between them was that A-440
was used in bolted construction , and the other one in welded
construction..
