RE: WELDING: Inspection of Plug Welds in Primary Member Connections

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Keep in mind that plug and slot welds have very limited applications in
D1.5. See 9.8(6), which prohibits plug and slot welds in members subject to
tension and reversal of stress. If used elsewhere, no NDT is required,
simply visual inspection. The basic design requirements are in 2.8,
technique is in 4.21 and 4.23.

If "plug welding" is being used to fill a hole, that's an entirely different
matter.

QUERY: What is the required method of inspection for "plug welds" under the
requirements of the Bridge Welding Code (AWS D1.5)?

Thank you.
