It is interesting to note that according to the Trinet Shake Maps, the
Response Spectra Pseudo Acceleration at the epicenter of the Hector Mine
Earthquake, 10/16/99 for 0.3 sec period was approximately 75% g. Web Site:
www.trinet.org.

According to the USGS Hazard Map web site:http://geohazards.cr.usgs.gov,
the Response Spectra Pseudo Acceleration predicted for 0.3 period with a 10%
probability of exceedance in 50 years (mean return period of 475 years) is
56.23 % g. and with a 5% probability of exceedance in 50 years (mean return
period of 1000 years) is 85.11% g. Epicenter: N 34.5956 degrees and W
116.268 degrees.

Chris Poland deserves considerable commendation for his active role and
continuing support of the California Strong Motion Instrument Program and his
new involvement in COSMOS.

I am not sure of his involvement in the Trinet Program, but the data that is
available at the Trinet web site is truly amazing.
