Check out your favorite engineering download source (or mine: 
<http://www.mecheng.asme.org/>) for some simple programs to do this. They 
won't cost much if they're shareware, and getting up the learning curve 
will take you less time that writing and debugging a couple of linked 
spreadsheets. With any luck at all you'll find something that will do 
both trusses and continuous beams. The down side is that they probably 
won't do the design for you, just the load and stress arithmetic, but 
you'll still save time.
