One possibility, as Charlie suggested, when you attach lower on the beam
web, is to provide sufficient restraint to twisting. This may be
accomplish with a vertical web stiffener and a bracing beam (with some
depth) attached to the stiffener. This is similar to the design
condition of a thru plate girder bridge or an upset girder at the edge
of a balcony.
