Here in Victoria, BC the going rate is about $CAN80 per hour charge out for sole and small businesses. Companies have design engineer rates of about $60 for design engineers and up to $125 per hour for principals. On the mainland I understand that soles and small business charge out at $100+, employees at about $70, and principals up to $150+. All funds in CAN$.

Yep we're cheap! :-)

Actually, as a self-employed consultant, the charge-out rates are of far
more interest. The hourly rate assumes full employment which certainly does
not apply to sole proprietorships. Also, employee benefits, if any, should
be considered when speaking of salary levels and hourly rates.
