Re: Steel base plate thickness???

Lloyd :

If the base you are calculating is mainly a moment connection, i.e., a
connection in which P =M/e falls outside the column kern, your
base-plate thickness must be in that order you mention, but if P falls
inside kern region, you shouldn't have such thickness. Anyhow, the
thickness calculated by AISC procedures assumes a portion of the plate
as a cantilever beam and this is not neccesarily the case. You could
take a bended plate if the inside portion of it transfer efficiently the
load to the bolts which in turn transfer the moment to the grade beams
or foundations. So, your design could be based in a plate with
fixed/continuos boundary conditions and probably results in a lesser
