RE: Epoxy (et al) Injection

For what it's worth, I once had a conversation with a local specialty
contractor about the preferred grouting method for sealing cracks in
concrete sanitary structures. He had used both chemical and epoxy grouting,
and his experience was that while they both work, the chemical grouts did
not last more than a few years, and he was back repairing the cracks again.
I once inspected a water filtration plant at a pulp mill that had been in
operation for about 40 years, and you could see where they had used chemical
grout over and over and never really achieved a permanent fix. The other
consideration is that if you once use chemical grout, you can't come back
later and try to redo it with epoxy when it fails. I would use epoxy unless
the cracks are just too wide.

For epoxies, I generally specify conformance with ASTM C881.  Also consider
Sika products for epoxy injection.  
If cracks are shrinkage cracks and don't negatively impact structural
integrity, I use chemical grout injection (urethanes).  Consider Avanti and
Deneef products for potable water.

in repairing a potable water treatment gravity filter for minor seepage
cracking, i am needing to inject something. 

i am tripping over literature for adhesive materials other than epoxy. 

urethanes from MasterBuilders, vinyl terploymers and vinylesters from
Absolute Waterproofing Systems, and traditional "epoxy" from Aboject

coupla Q's: 
1) is it just me or does our industry misuse/overuse the term epoxy and has
that become the Kleenex equivalent in the facial tissue realm or is epoxy
really the correct "generic" term for all of these 2 component adhesive

2) having used "epoxy" satisfactorily in the past for similar applications,
should i consider using some of these other materials (with all due
parameters (tensile and compressive strengths, viscosity appropriate for
crack width, etc) or shall i go with old standby.

3) what are pros and cons of other materials in your experiences. 
4) are there any other commonly available mfrs so that i don't get too
proprietary with my specification.
