Geotechnical Aspects of August 17, 1999 Kocaeli, Turkey Earthquake

The principal findings of a joint Turkish/ U.S. reconnaissance study of the
Kocaeli earthquake will be presented by three members of the U.S.
delegation.  Topics that will be covered include:
1.	Surface fault rupture and its effects on structures
2.	Strong motion recordings and site effects,
3.	Soil liquefaction and ground failure,
4.	Performance of building foundations,
5.	Performance of waterfront structures and lifelines.

Time allowing, some comments may also be made on the recent earthquake in
Taiwan.
