FEMA's Involvement in the code

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Mark Gilligan inquired:

<Is it an appropriate role for FEMA to be in charge of
writing the seismic provisions of the building code? Should this role not
be transfered to some other organization such as NCSEA or SEI/ASCE??>

SEAOC's recent plan review article by Hamburger addresses this issue. Also
the BSSC is holding an ongoing dialogue over how to best restructure the
code development and maintenance process for seismic provisions. Their
January business meeting in Nevada(?) will include such dialogue. While FEMA
may be funding travel and staff support for code development, FEMA is not
writing the provisions per se.
