AD stands for Anno Domini, which means "year of the Lord". It is intended
to be the year of His birth (although it's probably off by a few years).
Christ's death and resurrection took place in about 30 AD

A.D. stands for "after death" when He was (speculatively) 33 years old. The
B.C. stands for "before Christ" meaning before his birth. In this context,
time stood still during his life on earth.
