Does anyone know if you can get a 10d nail in 1.5" and 2.5" lengths instead
of the standard 3" length?

Gina-

Simpson Strong Tie makes and markets a number of special nails.  A nail that is typically specified for much of their framing hardware is an "N10".  It is ~ the same diameter as a 10d common nail (9 ga), but its length is 1.5".  The finish is hot dipped galvanized (HDG).  Most home center stores carry these and many people call them "joist hanger nails".

They also have an "N16" nail which is ~ a 16d nail (8 ga) and its length is 2.5".  It is a bright finish nail, and I believe that some home centers also carry this nail.  You can contact Simpson for distribution information at www.strongtie.com or (800) 999-5099.
