Firewalls(for preventing fire propogation)

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
The National Fire Protection Agency's voluminous books on the subject takes
quite an effort to comprehend, like any other regulatory document. A have a
simple question, for which I have not yet found an answer. When a structural
steel member passes through a firewall, is there a requirement to seal the
gap between the steel member and the block masonry firewall? If yes, what
material should be used? Shouldn't the sealant be capable of allowing some
expansion of the steel member (due to heat by conduction)? The firewall
separates an egress stairwell from a process area.
