As I see it now we all agree that clarity is more important than semantics. The more the clarification there is in general related documents the less emphasis on the meaning of "approval" etc.  The less clarification in gen docs the more important the word "approval" etc means.  All I have said is that what you sign to may be exposed to questions of ultimate responsibility, just like the thread on truss design/drawings.

I agree with Rodger Turk and so does our insurer that to avoid confusion and be clear about our intent and responsibility the shop drawing stamp has the following:
Approved As Noted
Not Approved
Revise and Resubmit
