Title: Fastener Availability
a good resource for misc. information like this is the "machinery's handbook" published by the industrial press. its about $75, adn now comes on cdrom too. get it from an industrial supply house like enco or j & l. its also a good source for dimensions and cuts of things not in the steel manual.
A325 is spec'd for 1/2", in types 1,2 & 3. i would stay away from SAE Grade 5. better to use Grade 8. in general the sae fasteners are not as quality controlled as structural bolts, IMHO the small premium for grade 8 is worth it. grade 8 is about equal to 490. its a medium-carbon alloy.
