The speed of corrosion (if it was corrosion) is beyond comprehension.  May
some NC engineers can comment on that issue?

AASHTO Pedestrian Bridge Design Guide requires light-truck loading (10,000
lbs for 10' wide bridge) for pedestrian bridges.  If (???) it was
designed/built per AASHTO specs, it shouldn't be the cause...

BTW, may be I am missing something, but beer jokes (and any other jokes) in
regard to that structural failure seem a little bit "off"...
