ANNOUNCING New aec-residential Listservice

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

-------- Original Message --------
I want to announce a new Listservice - devoted to residential construction.
Bill Polhemus has been kind enough to create the site for me and I've agreed
to administer it. What sets this site off from the SEAINT is the following:

1. Open to all members of the building industry. This site is intended to
help pass along knowledge and education with the primary goal of improving
construction quality and residential performance. I believe much of this can
be done with simple common sense rather than strict compliance with the

2. Many of us are frustrated with the building code as how it relates to
light framed wood structures with wood diaphragms. This List is devoted to
discussing the issues and will be closely tied to The Structuralist website
( where documents, drafts and other information can be
posted for review and later comment or discussion on the listservice.

3. The aec-residential list is also intended to promote unification of the
organizations that have an influence on code creation. Most of us realize
that Conventional Construction has a place in areas of the country that are
not at as much risk of damages due to high winds and earthquakes. However,
most tend to agree that from a performance level (including quality of
construction) the prescriptive methods need to be improved. The baseline
needs to be raised - how much, we will discuss.

If you are a building industry member (Architect, Designer, Engineer,
Developer, Contractor, Building Official, Inspector or even a student
interested in this industry) we urge you to subscribe and become a voice in
the profession.

To subscribe:

Send an email in plain text to: aec-residential-request(--nospam--at)
Put the word "subscribe" in the body of the message. Leave off the quotation
marks. Do not enter a subject line as the server simply ignore it.
You will receive confirmation within minutes that you must respond to. Read
the instructions carefully.

If you have any problems subscribing to the List, please write me at
admin(--nospam--at) and I'll provide additional information.

I will be posting an Information and Introduction file today to help you
with other Listservice options.
