10 AM, JULY 11, WEBCAST OF SHAKE TEST OF 2-STORY HOUSE AT UCSD

Dear Subscriber to the CUREe-Caltech Woodframe Project:

On Tuesday, July 11 at 10 am, there will be a live webcast of the UCSD
shake table test of a two-story house. The test features the full-scale
model in its most realistic state, with stucco exterior and gypsum board
interior, subjected to the Rinaldi record (1g, with near-fault pulse) from
the Northridge Earthquake. The house will be fitted out with a complete
array of nonstructural components -- seismically restrained and
unrestrained examples of a water heater, home entertainment center,
bookshelves, etc.

INFORMATION ON HOW TO VIEW THE LIVE WEBCAST

The web page for the event can be easily accessed from the CUREe website at
http://www.curee.org.

The video footage you will see live should be high quality, if:
1. You have a 56K or faster modem, or a T1, cable-modem, or other fast
Internet connection;
2. You have downloaded the latest version of the free RealPlayer software
needed to view and hear the webcast. This is available at:

http://www.real.com

(A for-purchase version of RealPlayer is advertised there, as well as
buttons to click on to obtain a free downloadable version. The free
version is sufficient for viewing our webcast).

When you access the video of the test at the CUREe website, the program
will "stream" via the UCSD Supercomputing Center to your computer, which
means you will not experience the typical download delay. (Other
previously recorded video at the CUREe website is streamed to you courtesy
of the University of Southern California Distance Education Network).

To verify that you will be able to see the webcast, you can view video
footage from previous tests at:

 http://www.curee.org/Projects/Woodframe_Project/woodframe_project.html

If the audio and visual program is not high quality, consult points #1 and
#2 above.
