Seismic Design Manual Volume II - More Rho

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Something for tomorrow discussion at the SDM Vol II seminar (I will not be
there and will appreciate some feedback.)

Example 1 Item 6 pages 60 and 61 - 3 problems:

1. On top of page 61 rmax refers to wall C; actually it is wall B. Well, a
minor typing mistake I guess.

2. The rmax calculated (0.26) is wrong. The actual rmax comes from upper
level of wall B as follow
rmax = 19029*(10/14)/36950 = 0.37  (36950 is from page 27). Do not say that
with correct rmax = 0.37 Rho is still < 1.0 and does not affect the shear
walls. That's not the point, the point is that the SDM is an educational
publication and should be correct.

3. Where is Ab=1542 coming from? No matter how you slice that building Ab is
not 1542.
