RE: K-factor for concrete in SAP90 via SAP2000

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Hello Frank.

I think that evaluation of K in concrete buildings is not necessary if a
P-Delta analysys is performed, Sap2000 takes the magnifiction factor as
unity for moments causing SIDESWAY(second order elastic analysis). The
factor for moment obtained for NON-SWAY are calculated using k, Pc, Cm, etc,
where k is taken as 1 conservatively (could be less, I think that never
greater, because in this case it is supossed that the structure can´t sway).
Anyway Sap2000 allows to override this value in "REDEFINE ELEMENT DESIGN
DATA". I don´t think that CSI removed it for problems in algorithms because
is a much more difficult to perform a P-Delta analysis than calculate K as
SAP90 did. Take a look at Sap2000 Concrete Design Manual Pag. 40.

Eduardo López, Civil Engineer, Venezuela.
