Dear Malegaon:

You are unlikely to find many good references on this topic.  The deep of the "key" is dependent on the jointing pattern and what materials may be filling the joints.  Check out Practical Rock Engineering by Dr. E. Hoek of the University of Toronto.  This reference can be downloaded from the web.

---Can any one suggest what should be the minimum depth of foundation
in hard massive rock black basalt for RCC Elevated service reservoir having 20 m staging ht and 4 m water depth >From my point of view the minimum depth should
be 2 m. Is ther any criteria for minimum depth of Foundation in hard rock. Govt organisations of Maharashtra form India named as Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran
force unnecessary to cary out foundation depth minimum 3 m though hard rockmet
from GL itself. Is this not a foolishness leading to national uneconomy.
If somebody knows any reference regarding min depth of foundation in hard rock Kindly suggest and email at spbspc(--nospam--at)bom6.vsnl.net.in
