Wind and Geotechnical Engineering Continuing Education Seminar Coming in 

SEAOI (Structural Engineers Association of Illinois) will hold a two-day 
continuing education seminar covering topics in Wind Engineering and 
Geotechnical Engineering.    The first day of the seminar, held on Friday, 
December 8, 2000, will focus on Wind Engineering topics presented by RWDI, 
Wind Consulting Engineers of Ontario, Canada. The Wind Engineering seminar 
includes the following sessions: "Characteristics of Wind"; "Static and 
Dynamic Effects of Wind"; "Wind Loading in Design Practice"; "When is Dynamic 
Wind Analysis Required?"; and "Snow Drifting and Pedestrian Comfort". 

The second day of the seminar, held on Saturday, December 9, 2000, will cover 
the following topics in Geotechnical Engineering: "Soil Theory and 
Remediation" and "Soil Dynamics" presented by Dr. Woods from the University 
of Michigan; "High-Rise Foundation Design" presented by Clyde Baker from STS; 
"Drilling & Sampling Procedures" presented by Bill Walton from STS; and 
"Temporary Earth Retention" presented by Dr. Gill from Ground Engineering.

This program should be of interest to all members of the construction 
industry, including architects, engineers, contractors, material suppliers 
wanting to learn more about the listed Wind Engineering and/or Geotechnical 
Engineering topics.

The seminar will be held at the Hotel Monaco on Wabash at Wacker Dr. in 
downtown Chicago. Further information, including a schedule and map, will be 
forwarded to you with your registration confirmation.

The cost of the seminar is  $300 for SEAOI members and $385 for non-members. 
The fee for registering for only one day of the seminar is $180 for SEAOI 
members and $225 for non-members. Registration after November 15th will cost 
an additional $50 for all individuals. Individuals who wish to attend this 
function should contact SEAOI Executive Secretary, Donna Childs at (312) 
372-4198. Refunds, less a $50 processing charge, will be issued if requested 
in writing on or before November 23, 2000. No refunds will be issued for 
requests received after November 23, 2000.
