Open web steel joists are welded in accordance with SJI requirements
(SJI Specifications K-Series Section 4.5, LH-Series 103.5, Joist Girders
1003.5) which are slightly different from AWS requirements. SJI
published Technical Digest No. 8 Welding of Open Web Steel Joists which
contains a Recommended Code of Standard Practice for Flare Bevel, Flare
Vee, and Fillet Welds in Open Web Steel Joists.
