the Aluminum Association structural Handbook is a good resource. Welding
is one thing to watch. Welding aluminum is not like welding steel, and
you take a serious strength hit when you weld almost anything. Aluminum
is soft and accumulates plastic strain real fast, so if fatigue or impact
is a concern you should be real careful. Pay attention to the weld
allowables--they're low for a reason.
