Yes, xref-bind, 

Per my previous posts, all files transferred out of office should only be done so using a temporary file name so as not to disrupt the source file. If you forget the password, just make new file. Do not use a password protected file for the current project files, unless the password is an inner office standard.

well thats right, its time consuming & expensive...
How come "Bind"?? What bind you mean?? Is it XREF-BIND??
You should keep in mind that, when u transfer an External reference file? 
You have to copy both the files, Current dwg, & Xref file.
Well any person can bind & explode it with in a sec..

Well no solution it seems!
Password option is a dangerous method!
Drawings are very valuable thing! some times it cost you millions if you 
lost the password!:)
