In my experience, it is the rare architect who seems to understand the
necessity for lateral resistance. Sorry if that offends any here, but in my
experience this is true.

I have had to go back to the architect and "reason together" with him to
include stuff he was reluctant to include for appearance' sake, but which
were unavoidably required so the **** thing wouldn't blow over in the next
stiff wind!
