The problem I have with STAAD isn't so much that it has "quirks" but out and out FLAWS. Moreover, these flaws, well-documented, are never addressed.
 
My main reason for going away from it to another product was that I wanted better customer support. I went to VisualAnalysis/VisualDesign, and although I've found "bugs" from time to time, they have ALWAYS been fixed promptly, as soon as I reported them.
 
On one occasion, I reported a bug that was fixed and the patch sent to me within one day!

I cannot imagine REI doing anything like that.

I find STAADPRO to be quite reliable.  Yes it has its quirks but I haven't found a single piece of software on the market that doesn't.
