Re: T&G roof diaphragms

Yes, the code does not prohibit you using the lumber diaphragm. But then the orientation of the
diaphragm must be at an angle of 45 degress to the supports. I presume you need to place them
straight between supports. If they are angled, does it upset your client's desire.
See UBC Ch. 2315 for full description. Again what is your diaphragm shear? If you have more
than 100 plf, you will have difficulty to justify the lumber diaphragm action!
Suggestion, place a structural sheathing on top of the 2x6 flat boards, cost a little more but may
work for the shear!

Does anyone have any information as to whether T&G wood diaphragms are accepted in the state of California? Our client has requested 2x6 T&G spanning 4ft. Our project is located in the state of California, seismic zone 4.

Any information anyone has is greatly appreciated.
