Re: Embeded reinforcing steel in soil?

A sacrificial zinc anode (also called a galvanic-anode) is probably a better means of protection that either `painting' with zinc-rich paint or hot-dip galvanizing.

This is a form of cathodic protection and is often used to protect buried steel pipelines and prestressed concrete cylinder pipe.  It is a fairly simple installation and  should not be real expensive;  any company which designs cathodic protection systems for concrete structures could do it.

You could also use impressed-current cathodic protection but that would probably be overkill.
