Re: Aluminum base plate

Alden,

I don't think there will be any adverse effect if stainless steel anchor bolts are used. But I see a big problem if you opt to use aluminum base plate, for its notoriously known to react with concrete. No matter what you do, If at all it gets in contact with concrete you are in big problem.

More over stiffness of aluminum is poor; you might end up requiring a very thick base plate for the given frame reactions.

These architects have funny ideas in their mind. My advise to you is to put your foot down & refuse to indulge into such an adventure. Regards,

Architect wants to use an aluminum baseplate for a small canopy column (also aluminum). Is there an adverse affect if i use stainless steel anchor rods? do i need to specify something to seperate the concrete and aluminum, like a
piece of rubber?

Thanks.

Alden
