RE: Wood Fasteners [was Re: Re: 1/3 increase]

Gentlemen:

FYI these are the nail sizes we design to and specify on our plans. For
typical connections we engineer to the 16d framer nail, a .131 x 3-1/4 inch
nail. This is the nail that most gun guys make and sell. Some boxes are
marked "16d framer." Our load values are based on the Euro Yield equations
in the NDS verified against ISANTA's ICBO report. 16d commons are on the
list because we do use them but VERY RARELY. NOTE that a 16d framer is the
same diameter as an 8d common! We end up with a lot of nails in our designs
but the plans more often match what is built.

We have also been using the Simpson SDS screws for the same reasons as Nels.

I want to get back to the 1/3 thing but at a later time.
